Cover artwork created for Delightful Aging for People with Dementia, a Japanese medical textbook by Dr. Masahiko Fujii and Dr. Hidetada Sasaki.

The cover was created to offer students and emotional therapists a moment of rest, joy, and renewed passion for their work.

This art is not simply decoration. It is the reader’s first emotional experience of the book—a quiet reminder that medicine can make room for dignity, rest, and delight.

Welcoming the Heart

Rather than giving the book a conventional medical appearance, I wanted the cover to feel gentle and inviting.
Before readers encounter the knowledge within, the artwork offers them space to pause, breathe, and enter with an open heart.

Inspired by William Morris

The original concept called for a green botanical pattern inspired by William Morris.
Flowing leaves extend across the front, spine, and back cover, while the open white background gives the detailed pattern lightness and room to breathe.

Rest and Renewed Passion

The cover was created especially with future emotional therapists in mind.
The hope was that each time they returned to the book, their hearts would feel rested and uplifted—and their passion for caring for others would be quietly renewed.

A Sense of Play

Small fruits, flowers, birds, and butterflies are hidden among the leaves, bringing a gentle sense of asobi—playfulness and unexpected delight.
These details invite the reader to slow down, look again, and discover something new.

Color and Emotional Balance

Layered greens express calm, restoration, and continuing life. Cream-colored flowers bring softness and light, while touches of orange and red add warmth and vitality.
The colors were balanced to feel joyful without becoming overwhelming.
